Meet Stephanie
Hi, I’m Stephanie Bluekens, owner of The Plant Kingdom Greenhouse & Nursery, Inc. in Fairbanks, Alaska.
At 24 years old, I took a leap of faith and purchased The Plant Kingdom. It wasn’t just a business to me—it was an opportunity to preserve a place that had already become part of our community’s story while building something that would continue serving Interior Alaska for generations to come.
Established in 1999, The Plant Kingdom entered a new chapter in 2017 when I became its owner. Since then, every season has brought new challenges, new lessons, and countless moments of gratitude. From helping first-time gardeners plant their very first flowers to watching families return year after year, this greenhouse has become so much more than where I work—it’s where community grows.
Alaska has always been home. My family roots run deep through Rampart and Fort Yukon, and those values of hard work, resilience, and caring for one another have shaped both my life and the way I run this business. As a proud Alaska Native woman, I carry those traditions with me every day. They remind me to respect the land, value community, and recognize that the greatest things in life take time, patience, and care. Gardening teaches those same lessons.
As a business owner and a mom, I understand how meaningful home can be. Whether you’re planting your first flower pot, growing vegetables for your family, adding fruit trees to your property, or creating a landscape you’ll enjoy for years to come, my goal is to help you feel confident every step of the way. We believe every customer deserves healthy plants, honest advice, and the kind of personal service that makes you feel like family the moment you walk through our doors.
Over the years, The Plant Kingdom has become more than a greenhouse. It’s a place where people gather to learn, celebrate, and connect. We host workshops, community events, weddings, seasonal activities, and educational opportunities that bring people together through a shared love of gardening. Whether you’re attending your first class, picking out a single perennial, or spending the afternoon exploring with your family, we hope you leave feeling inspired.
When I’m not at the greenhouse, you’ll usually find me spending time with my daughter, family, and friends, caring for my bees, working in my own gardens, or exploring the incredible landscapes that make Alaska unlike anywhere else. Those moments remind me why this work matters. Plants have an amazing way of bringing people together. They create beauty, nourish families, mark life’s biggest milestones, and remind us to slow down and appreciate the season we’re in.
My dream has always been for The Plant Kingdom to be more than just a place to buy plants. I want it to be a place where people feel welcomed, inspired, and supported—whether they’re stopping in for one perennial, asking a gardening question, attending a workshop, or simply enjoying a walk through the greenhouse. Every season is an opportunity to help someone discover the joy of gardening, connect with nature, and create something beautiful. That is, and always will be, the heart of The Plant Kingdom.
I often say that I didn’t just purchase a greenhouse—I chose to build a life around helping things grow. That includes plants, certainly, but it also includes people, relationships, knowledge, and community. Watching families return year after year, seeing children become gardeners themselves, and knowing we’ve played a small part in creating memories is one of the greatest privileges of my life.
Thank you for supporting a locally owned, family-operated greenhouse. It is truly an honor to be part of your gardening journey, and I look forward to growing alongside this incredible community for many years to come.
With gratitude,
Stephanie Bluekens
